Do Not Oppress the White Man!!

My good friend Brian gave me a heads up to this ridiculous article about a (male) lawyer who is suing Columbia University because, get this, the Women’s Studies program is “discriminatory towards men.” When I read this my jaw literally dropped at the asinine assumptions and blatant lies he puts forth and I want nothing more than for him to sit in a Women’s Studies seminar because I don’t even know where to begin my argument–oh, right, probably by being a Feminazi who says vag trumps cock in my quest to dominate men everywhere…

Roy Dennis Hollander, a New York lawyer, apparently has a habit of taking legal action against what he sees as “Feminazi” practices of favoring women–like having ladies nights at bars, which he believes violates the equal protection under the law covered in the 14th amendment. And now this self-proclaimed anti-feminist is going after women’s studies courses, accusing Columbia of using government aid to preach a “religionist belief system called feminism.”

In Mr. Den Hollander’s suit, he called women’s studies “a bastion of bigotry against men” and said its women’s studies program “demonizes men and exalts women in order to justify discrimination against men based on collective guilt.” Such academic programs at Columbia and at universities nationwide, he said, are “spreading prejudice and fostering animosity and distrust toward men with the result of the wholesale violation of men’s rights due to ignorance, falsehoods and malice. Federal financial aid, state funds and other assistance help proselytize feminism at Columbia,” in violation of equal protection safeguards of the Fifth and 14th Amendments, claimed Mr. Den Hollander, who said, “Columbia has thrown its influence and prestige into violating the rights of men by offering a women’s studies program but no men’s studies program.”

Okay, first off I am the first to admit that I believe that the title “women’s studies” should be changed to a more all-encompassing and more precise title of “gender studies.” Because women’s studies focuses upon gender and fancy that, gender includes men! Men are not ignored in women’s studies, but the emphasis is mostly placed upon women as the more wronged gender in a patriarchal society. There are no men’s studies programs just like there aren’t Caucasian studies–because everything is white man’s studies, have you read a history textbook? Do you have problems with African American Studies or Asian Studies because they don’t center around you, precious and sidelined white man? If you honestly believe that this country oppresses men strictly due to their gender then you are the most ignorant or delusional person alive.

Secondly, I’m just so goddamn sick of this bullshit, that feminists “demonize men and exalt women.” Seriously, are we not beyond this yet? Do we still have to cling to the bullshit idea that feminists hate men? For the 104893498475th time, feminists do not hate men! Feminists are not appreciative of a patriarchal society that shames and silences women and places them in a second-class category. Hollander says, “the Feminazis have infiltrated institutions, and there’s been a transfer of rights from guys to girls.” Yes, since the women’s rights movement in the 1970s there has been a transfer of more rights to women, but there has not been a full-scale transfer of rights to women only, and this is not the aim of feminists! Say it with me, Hollander– GENDER EQUALITY. By attempting to reach gender equality, yes Mr. Man, you will have to give up some of your (unearned) power due solely to your gender and share it with women. But we are not looking to “overthrow” you. We are simply asking for equality. And in the long run I truly believe that this equality will benefit us all, male and female.

To me his lawsuit smacks of bitterness more than anything, and that’s just sad. There is no way that anything will legally come of this (thank god) but I truly believe that someone should force this man to take a women’s studies class. Starting in the fall, Mr. Hollander, there’s a Tuesday 10:35am Intro to Women & Gender Studies class on the Barnard campus and I for one think you should attend and become educated. Because you’ve just pissed off a whole bunch of us Feminazis with your asinine assumptions about us and we’re a crazy bunch, there’s no telling what we’ll do…

  1. amen sista.

  2. There are no men’s studies programs just like there aren’t Caucasian studies–because everything is white man’s studies, have you read a history textbook?

I agree that history, as most schools teach, is just the deeds of, mostly white, men. However, the point, as I understand it, of women’s studies is not just to study women’s contributions to history but to study women AS women. A men’s, or Caucasian, studies program would reinforce the idea that gender, and race, are societal constructions. And that society socializes “maleness” and “whiteness” as much as society socializes “femaleness” or “blackness.” A men’s, and Caucasian, studies program would focus on studying men AS men, something that history books don’t do.

  3. Men are physically, socially, and mentally superior to women by a very large margin. Gender Studies is merely a quest to reduce this margin somewhat.

  4. To Tyler Harvey, your ignorance is the reason for inequality towards women. As for your so called “margin” it doesn’t exist, it is all in your head.

  5. why so many boys talk here?
    internets confusing.

    anyway. commenting on comments:

    – while ‘caucasian studies’ studies doesn’t exist, whiteness studies sure as hell do
and it is good, because good means important today

    – people named tyler are usually good at jokes

    – does ignorance make shitty society or does shitty society things make ignorance?

i like this place, it’s pretty small and lonely but i think it’s important.

  6. I’ve actually experienced men-hating in person, in a religious studies class. For some reason, my professor thought it would be interesting to take us through a Women’s Studies exercise, in which men are to sit and listen silently to women converse about gender. During the process of the conversation, men as a whole were degraded, and blamed for issues that men as a whole did not create. I was also informed about everything I “will never understand” (RRGH), such as being in physical danger (because of course, men never get treated with violence in life), and I was even given several “looks”. By the end, I got the strong impression that the women who were talking saw the issue of gender as a competition to be the most oppressed, in which women are the winners and men are the losers.
